Résumé Aurelie is Chatte's sister. Chatte is proud to have a sister who is also her aunt and her mother. Aurelie is Chatte's mother by adoption, since Chatte's real mother is Charlotte, Aurelie's sister, who fled to Italy twenty-four years ago in order to forget that her daughter was born of an incestuous relationship with
her father. The play is the story of the deep love between a young woman and her adoptive mother and their sisterhood that goes beyond all family ties. It is also a play about the breaking of bonds and parting, and, most of all, about the love and tenderness that enable us to survive wounds that seem as if they might never heal.

- Décor: THE SET
A solarium. The real McCoy. Whether or not we actually see them, we should be able to sense the glass panes which surround the room on three sides. This is a solarium which looks and functions more like a greenhouse. It's Aurélie's favourite place, her retreat. Here she can grow whatever her heart desires. Everywhere there are green plants of all types and size. At every change of season, the contents of the solarium vary and change, reflecting the current season and the passage of time.
The furnishings are extremely comfortable ?? a low table for tea things, books, magazines. It's that sort of place, drenched in atmosphere This is an older solarium, long and well and lovingly lived?in, a room which does justice to all the care and attention it has received.
The solarium leads to the living room of the house through a door upstage left (though why not upstage right, come to that?), a door of the same glass panes as the solarium walls, a door which is never closed.
- Caractéristiques des personnages: THE CHARACTERS
AURÉLIE
45 years old at the opening of the play. A woman of remarkable humanity, compassion and perceptiveness. Never sentimental, she treats Cat as a friend.
One should avoid any "mother?daughter " overtones, and favor, instead a sense of tenderness and understanding between them.
CAT
23 years old at the opening of the play. Her real name is Charlotte. Lively and passionate, she's something of a stranger to any notion of compromise or self?denial. No half?measures for her; life is to be lived at its most intense, most vibrant pitch.
She's much more than a pretty girl. She's a woman possessed of great inner beauty, fiercely committed to life.
Extrait « CAT : "I tell myself that I'm writing to you to keep alive the tie between your daughter and you and me, her false mother, so true. But I know that's not the truth. I write not to lose you, because you're already so far, so lost to me in the final analysis. Does your exile bring you comfort in any way?" » Revue de presse "A monumental play that sweeps your heart away and leaves you weak-kneed." Jean Beaunoyer, La Presse, Montreal, January 14, 1989.
